MAGAZINE BLISS AND A GIVEAWAY

Earlier this year, I had a fun opportunity to write much of the copy for Victoria magazine's special interest publication, Holiday Bliss. Well, it's out on newsstands now!  So if you're in the mood for some holiday bliss, be sure to check it out. I'd love to share a copy with everyone but I only have one copy to to give away to one of my readers. If you'd like a chance to win it, just leave me a comment telling me how you like to decorate for the holidays by Saturday, October 27, at 10 p.m. (central time). I'll draw a name and announce it on my blog Sunday evening. The winner will then need to contact me with her/his email address.

In other magazine news, two of my articles were recently published in the Fall 2012 issue of Quilt Sampler magazine.

They feature two fabulous quilt shops—Sweet Home Quilt Co. in Conyers, Georgia, and Lone Star House of Quilts in Arlington, Texas. The shop owners couldn't have been more gracious with their time and contributions. Their passion for what they do was obvious—and contagious. After my QS interviews, I always feel like retreating to my sewing room all day! If you haven't visited these terrific shops I hope you will check them out. I know they're on my list of go-to shops! Here's the entry spread for the Sweet Home Quilt Co. profile...

And here's the one for the Lone Star House of Quilts article. Both shops have welcoming porches to greet their guests.

A few of you Country French decorating fans who know I write for Country French magazine asked me to notify you when the next issue was out. Well, it's here and I have an article in it.

My article—called "Enlightened Elegance"—talks about how a seamless medley of painted finishes, French antiques, and calming colors draws out the softer side of a Houston home shared by a busy mother and her four daughters.

  1. All three magazines look very interesting, but I would love to peruse the holiday issue. I decorate with glitz at Christmas...my antique glass ornaments alongside my Radko collection and lots of sparkle everywhere. This year I would like to attempt to recreate some vintage decorations...paper houses covered with glitter and maybe a snowman or two.

  2. I love decorating for Christmas, I tend to decorate more traditional (ok your not surprised are you?) this year I am hoping to find lots of red tartan plaid I ribbon I want to wrap the tree in ribbon and then put big bows on the staircase spindles with the tartan plaid
this year it will be brown kraft wrapping paper under the tree with thin tartan plaid fabric strips instead of curling ribbon and bows...
I use my red and green quilts sprinkled thru out the home too...
I don't over due it, to me less is more lately
thanks would love this magazine for more ideas!

  3. You certainly have been busy! Thanks for the chance at winning that great mag! I like to decorate for the holidays with a lot of greenery and branches from our property. If we are having guests, I like to put a table top decorated tree in each bedroom; each one decorated in a different theme. Our home is victorian, and we put up our tree in the parlor room. It's covered in mostly silver, gold and glass ornaments, strings of pearly beads, and all the special ornaments that I've collected over the years. My motto is "if you can still see green, then there are not enough ornaments on it!" lol

  4. Holiday Bliss looks very tempting - love the cover. I always but QS - and love your write-ups. wouldn't it be fun to be able to visit all of those shops? I am not a big decorator at all. At Christmas we have a big tree in the living room, then I put a pencil tree in my sewing room. Which reminds me, it needs a tree skirt - I really need to get one made this year!

  14. I guess I have to say that I just like to decorate for the holidays as we have lots of outside lights and usually at least 3 trees. But my favorite is what I call my homespun tree with simple handmade ornaments made of wool and old quilts. becky in georgia

  18. Good Morning - I couldn't resist entering your giveaway as the magazine looks awesome! At Christmas I put away all my 'country' decorations and pull out all my glitzy, kitschy decorations - I try to achieve a look of vintage early 1970's and back. Our 6ft tree (live) is covered in Shiny Brites, I have collections of putz houses, dapol decorations, old ice skates etc...anything that reminds me of childhood Christmases...of course there's alot of new glittery things mixed in too...it's just a fun happy sparkly time :)
    Smiles, DianeM
